Bright Matter: Afterglow – Joanie Lemercier on light, craft, and the sublime

For New Yorkers 2014 ended with a rare treat: everyone’s favorite projection artist Joanie Lemercier (FR) teamed up with producer Juliette Bibasse (FR) and fellow media artists LAb[au] (BE), Numen / For Use (AT/HR), Nonotak (FR/JP), and François Wunschel (FR) to bring a dazzling (and largely European) influx of Bright Matter to the Lower East Side. From November 21st to January 11th, Muriel Guépin Gallery was home to an array of ingenious illusions and perceptual hacks that demonstrated “how light articulates reality and how easily we are deceived” (or so the press release glowed).
