DNPWWO [Games]

In DNPWWO (Does Not Play Well With Others) Alex Myers uses “a simple video game hardware hack to subtly change the dynamics of the ubiquitous death-match mode in an effort to subvert traditional game-play. The hack also serves to change the relationships between the players. Restructuring the original ritual-combat both as the typical aggressive power-play and as a new hypnotic experience of the beauty in the machine.”

It’s about PLAY and the unfettered JOY and AGONY of experience. It is about how we ritualize these experiences in an effort to share with each other. Whether we share pain or pleasure is up to us.

    I didn't bend it because I wanted the soundscape to act as an environmental guidepost. The cues and emotional tenor of the original score/sound effects play with our shared sense of DOOM2 as a cultural artifiact.
