5130 Lose/Lose [Mac, Games, openFrameworks]

New experimental app from Zach Gage comes in the form of space invaders shooter with an edge to gameplay. Toying with the idea of “consequence”, everything that happens while you play is real. Each alien is procedurally generated out of a file on your computer. When you kill an alien, the file it was created from is destroyed. On the other hand, if you are killed, the application itself will be destroyed.

I, unfortunately, haven’t brought myself to have a go regardless of how good it looks. There are only two people on the online scoreboard which to me suggests that those that have played might have lost important system files to upload their score in the first place =]. This also raises the question of how lucky Zach was to create the game as most deployment test runs would have slowly deleted all of his files. I will nevertheless have a go eventually, as long as I confirm with Zach first how safe this actually is =]. Zach, Skype?

lose/lose can be downloaded at your own risk, here: lose/lose

made with openFrameworks

WARNING: THIS GAME MAY DELETE FILES ON YOUR COMPUTER!

  1. So I played the game, and the first “alien” I think I deleted was my applications folder. I promptly ⌘-Q the game. Near gave me a heart attack if I hadn't just time-machined.

  2. im so impressed that you actually tried it !
sorry about the near heart attack

at the very least it did not erase your applications folder, it would only have done that after it deleted all your applications one by one, but, welcome to the highscore list, your bravery will be preserved for posterity :)

  3. Release a PC version and I will beat your high score no matter how many times I have to format.

  4. Some people have been asking me: “Why do you guys care about Mac gaming so much? ” Well, I must say there are numerous reasons why we love to support Mac.

  6. yes, please make a windows version, i was looking forward to using this as a creative way to commit computer suicide before formatting (after backup) until i realized it was mac-exclusive. openFrameworks works in windows though, according to wikipedia, so please, i beg you to release a windows edition!
