1pxClock [iPhone]

1pxclock00With over a 100 clock apps in the AppStore it may be hard to decide which one you should to go for. Although many of them tell you about time, in a million different ways, from old clock to digital, none provide features that you would actually need from the clock app. For one being ability to automatically switch on and off, consume very little power, provide alarm and go to standby mode when needed (Apple is to blame). This brings us to the point of why we need clock apps in the Appstore at all? Sure, it may be nice from time to time to turn the clock app on and look at the clock at your desk, but why would you need to do that...after all, it's only consuming power. There have been also attempts to rationalise this purpose by suggesting that you should plug your iPhone into power outlet and let it charge whilst it's displaying time. This all seems way cumbersome and totally defeating the point of a clock, simple and useful.

This brings us to the point of what makes a good iPhone clock app. Taking into account what I mentioned above, none of these apps fulfil the purpose we expect from them so the way we should look at this is by analysing which app gives us most aesthetic pleasure, ie which one looks best regardless of whether it's actually useful. Think of it as a companion, something that gives purpose to visualising time on the iPhone.
