Analytics App [iPhone]

analytics00Michael D Jensen has just released a full featured Google Analytics app for the iPhone.

In the last few months, ever since the launch of the app store, there have been a number of apps that provide you with access to your analytics data. myAnalytics (itunes link) was one of the first but unfortunately lacked the features we have so grown accustomed to on the web. Most recently we have seen Analytics Pro (itunes link) which provide reports in the form of PDF files which may have proved helpful at times but not felt native to the iPhone. Analytics App is the new addition and definitely the most full featured one.

When launching the app you are greeted with a welcome screen to input your credentials. As Google Analytics for your sites is linked to a single email address Analytics App will also display all the sites you have linked to the account. From then on, things are just as you would expect. Visitor, traffic and content overviews, referrals and others (29 in total), reports by set period and most useful, lacking in the online web app without setting it manually, today’s statistics. We were very pleased to see this has been incorporated and even though google app does not provide you with real time data, having a quick access to the most recent reports is very useful. In addition, graphs are included, displaying visits for the past month or any other period you specify.

overview

There are few points worth mentioning about the performance. It may seem that even on WiFi access the data load is slightly slower than what you would expect. myAnalytics shares the same problem so we can only conclude that this is down to google analytics API. The question does remain whether the information that was downloaded could in some way be cached on the device and refreshed when requested. If you use Google Analyticas webapp you already know that at times pulling this data can be slow even on the fast connection on the desktop. We, in any case, hope that speed improvements will be one of the primary things to be addressed in the future releases.

If you are looking a way to access Google Analytica from your iPhone, Analytics App offers the best and most features solution yet. Beautifully designed, simple and easy yo use and most definitely very reasonably priced at $5.99, your Google Analytic data is now easily accessible right from your pocket.

Filip, thanks for the nice review! To answer your question, yes any lag time you experience is because of (a) your connection and (b) Google’s response time to the API call. We actually do cache the report during your session, so if you view a report, go to another report, and then back again it is using a cached version of the report (unless you change the date of course).

Thanks for the review, I’m glad you like the app, it’s been fun to build and it will be fun to continue to develop further after great feedback from individuals like yourself! Thanks
