2627 Pulse+ [iPhone]

Pulse+ is an interactive version of the classic video from Pink Twins (musicians and video artists, brothers Juha and Vesa Vehviläinen from Helsinki, Finland) available for the iPhone.

Pulse+ is a reconstruction of a natural phenomenon. A satellite photo of a Siberian glacier is transformed through 3D animation and digital manipulation into an ice storm, raging to the rhythm of a regular pulse. The multidimensional work consists of found footage layers and parallel rhythms. The chaos of the nature is harnessed to a rhythm and format that is easier to grasp by a human being.

Pink Twins work from fragments of images, sounds and sensations which our daily life is subjected to in order to break them down into small particles and reunite them once again in audacious constructions formed from chaos, pulverising and rendering them abstract, according to a unified artistic sensitivity. Their concerts are surprising chromatic combinations with strong sonic collusions which correspond to a deep need, with nothing superfluous.

Not your usual application but rather an art piece/visualizer of work particular to Pink Twins whose works have been exhibited around the world. A visual fiesta of how sound/music composition may be explored which may not be for all but those who enjoy journeys into the realms of experimental music and visual arts. A must download rather then the movie below as the joint experience of sound, visualization and interaction can only be fully enjoyed on your own iPhone/iPod touch with earphones on. I can only imagine the impact of full scale wall projection and slightly disappointed I have not yet seen the artworks in their full glory. It is nevertheless great to see artists explore iPhone as a platform and works like these spring enthusiasm that AppStore may be a great platform for artists to reach the masses.
