WriteRoom Now with WebApp Sync [iPhone, WebApp]
There are currently many note taking apps available in the AppStore. Apple has also finally added note syncing between Mail.app and Note.app with the iPhone 3.0 software release. For me, WriteRoom has been my writing tool of choice but with the latest update to the iPhone app, Writeroom is distraction free writing at it’s best.
If you have missed our review back in October last year, and for users not already familair with WriteRoom for Mac, this is an application that takes away all the distraction of your regular desktop and gives you a clean focus on the task at hand – writing.
The iPhone application has proved popular amongst the long term WriteRoom users. It’s clean, simple interface, adjustable fonts and sizes, background and web browser access on the local network delivered everything for mobile writing in a clean and simple interface.
The latest 1.3.1 release, brings syncing with the new online webapp. Whilst the app may be in beta still, it adopts beautiful simplicity of both mac app and the iPhone app. To sync, tap the sync button in the document list view, and then enter your Google ID and password. You may already have a Google ID (for example a gmail account), if not you can create one for free at Google.com. To view your documents online visit www.writeRoom.ws.
Your iPhone keeps its own copy of your documents, so you can use them when you are offline and sync later when you are online.
The webapp also work beautifully with Fluid.app removing all the unnecessary toolbars allowing you to focus on the task at hand, writing (see screens below). It would be no surprise if Jesse (hogbaysoftware) introduced this feature to the mac app also and we hope he does. This would complete the circle, Mac -> webApp -> iPhone and back.
Another addition with the latest version of the iPhone app is the full-screen mode which fades away the iPhone toolbars, leaving you with a distraction free view of your text. To enter full screen mode use the zoom in gesture (reverse pinch). To exit use the zoom out gesture (pinch). Also, important to mention, when you purchase WriteRoom.iPhone, you’ll get a $5 off coupon that can be used when purchasing the Mac OS X version of WriteRoom or TaskPaper.
If you are PC, check out DarkRoom, a WriteRoom clone for Windows.
For now, I could not ask for more. Distraction free writing at it’s best!
