Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at ART+COM studios

Company: ART+COM studios

Location: Berlin, Germany
Type: Full-Time
Category: Technologist

Description

We are looking for a new Chief Technical Officer.

ART+COM has been rethinking and redefining New Media in communication over 30 years, and is today over 80 people strong interdisciplinary team of artists, designers and engineers.
We work in the fields of industry, culture and research We create interactive spaces, applications and installations for exhibitions, events and fairs for our clients from industry, culture and research. Our works span from communication design projects over artistic interventions to technology development and innovations. If you’re thriving for novel creative solutions for unusual challenges, you will feel at home in our team. We are looking for someone who can lead a team as well as interface with the clients.

With the continuously changing techonology landscape, the prospective CTO would be expected to plan IT architectures for our in-house developments as well as for client projects, understanding the strategic future possibilities. Also he/she would be tasked with building software development culture as much as overseeing the software development itself – being a key figure in our R&D team, innovating in prototyping, VR/AR and in new kinds of connected experiences.

We’d expect as minimum MSc/MEng/PhD in some field of Computer Science, at least 5 years of work experience in a community of more than 20 people and experience with modern software development processes such as scrum. More specifically, experience in 2D/3D front end development, backend/database systems, project and human resource management as well as local and remote collaboration strategies will be central to the scope of the position.

As a studio specialising in communication in space (mostly on the surface of the earth), strong human communication skills are essential (in German and in English). The CTO moderates and leads within the interdisciplinary teams as well as embodies authority in client communication. A practical, solution-driven approach instead of incremental tweaking of a tightly defined product line is the norm, as our installations tend to be highly specialized one-off productions.

We are based in Berlin, but a satellite software team in Bonn and our clients all around the world means that there will be travelling.
