The Technical Arts Department is looking to hire an individual who sees themselves as a highly collaborative and creative maker with a background in computer programming and 3D design. The ideal candidate should be excited about working with a team to develop accessible curriculum for students from all walks of life in a part-shop, part-lab, part-makerspace environment filled with loads of amazing tools. You should see computer science as a living and flexible medium that can guide students to be more creative, confident, and crafty. You will be working collaboratively in a department with five other instructors whose strengths include: woodworking, metalworking, jewelry, digital fabrication, sewing, electronics, and kinetics. We need you to be the coding element! As a teacher at LWHS, you should value and listen to diverse student experience, embrace individualized learning, and feel a strong affinity toward creating an equitable learning environment.

We are looking for an instructor to teach at least three classes (60% time) as well as attend occasional meetings and school events. This is a good position for someone with a flexible private practice. You would begin in the fall of 2017 by teaching two sections of “Computing One” and one section of a 9th grade “Design and Technology” course. In the spring, you would teach one section of “Computing One”, one section of “Computing Two” and the 2nd half of the “Design and Technology course”. Flexible curriculum currently exists for all these courses. It may be possible to increase the position to 80% time, and receive benefits, by taking on a student-advising group.

Must Have Skills
–Experience programming in two or more languages (Currently we primarily use: P5.js, Processing, Arduino, Javascript, and other web programming)
–Some familiarity with 3D modeling (Preferably Rhino)
–Experience with computational design, a design process, and design thinking
–Fueled by creativity and collaboration
–Organized, positive, optimistic, and friendly
–Commitment to equity and cultural competency
–A persistent “we can figure this out” attitude toward challenges
–Comfort working with high school age students

Additional Preferred Skills
–Some familiarity with embedded programming (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Particle)
–Basic knowledge of electronics/physical computing (such as light and motor control, sensors)
–Github or equivalent version control
