2D SuperShapes [Processing]

2D SuperShapes is a processing application created by Reza Ali as an experiment to explore making something minimal and fun to play. We have already written about supershapes on CAN but in Flash form and 3D. What I especially enjoy about these experiments is their simplicity and boldness. Ability to play with parameters allows you to explore simple transformation, not necessarily always knowing what will come next.

Reza writes: Recently, I have been exploring SuperShapes, which are organic shapes that are rendered by evaluating the superformula with different parameters. This formula creates some beautiful and very organic shapes that can be used in other graphics to make a dynamic graphic composition (either interactive or static). Doing this in Matlab or Mathematica is interesting, but I wanted to make something a little more interactive, minimal and fun to play

To do this, Reza designed a Processing application that can be used to create these shapes and render an image of them at a super high resolution (5333×2100). Also, there is a 3D version in the works which shoul be available soon.

You can download the application here for Mac, Windows and Linux or See more Renders.
