3344 Cells [Mac]

cells00

Created by Zach Gage, Cells is a sound sequencer that uses Conway’s Game of Life to generate notes. Each box of each layer can be tuned to a collection of notes. The notes go from left to right, and are frequency modulated from top to bottom. Each layer has it’s own set of notes. Because Conway’s game of life often ends, layers can be set to loop, playing a certain number of iterations and then returning to the start.

The Game of Life, also known simply as Life, is a cellular automaton devised by the British mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970. It is the best-known example of a cellular automata.

We have already written about a few apps utilizing cellular automaton including 3208 Automaton [iPhone] and 32 Life 1.0 [iPhone].
