6294 Voltron [openFrameworks, Processing]

voltron000

VolTron is a Library for Processing that allows you to plot 3D volumetric forms from .img and .raw.gz data sets as voxels or pixelclouds. It also allows dynamic adding of voxels to an array to create volumes generatively.

VolTron Class for OF – ofxVolTron is the port of code to C++ for use in OpenFrameworks. The of version is deliberately more open that processing version – allows for different parsing and has some new functions for plotting ranges and changing draw styles. Development is ongoing. See some video of it working below. For the time being code is private and will be added to Dataprole Code as soon as cleaned up a little.

Some datasets for download here, here and here.

Created by Joey Scully, interaction designer and media artist working at locative mobile, ubiquitous and architectural interactive interfaces + currently studying for MRes Digital Media @ Culture Lab Newcastle University. Joey is also one of the organisers of ofNcl, a user group for people working with Open Frameworks concentrated around Culture Lab @ Newcastle University. If you are in and around NCL and want to come along, join up and find out about the group, meetings and workshops.

I should also mention that this coming Monday is a London openFrameworks Knitting Circle meet up. If you live in London, and interested in oF, you should definitely come along. A big thank you to Ruairi Glynn for sorting out the venue, hosted by University College London’s MSc Adaptive Architecture & Computation Programme.
