App Art Wanted – the ZKM_AppArtAward 2015

ZKM_AAA_header

Is art unprofitable? On the contrary! The ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe is once again looking for artworks in app format and honors the best of them with the AppArtAward in four different categories.

The objective of the AppArtAward – jointly presented by the ZKM | Karlsruhe and CyberForum e.V. for the fifth time this year – is to support developers in the field of creative mobile applications in order to be innovative and to extend existing structures. Artists, designers and developers from all over the world are invited to submit their apps by May 10, 2015. The four awards, each amounting to €10,000, are to be presented at the ZKM | Karlsruhe during the AppArtAward ceremony on July 10, 2015.

Award for Artistic Innovation – €10,000

This general category is directed at all creative, innovative app developments that use the medium’s full scope for artistic design.

The Special Award Crowd Art – €10,000

Crowd Art refers to both location-independent networked Cloud Computing and to collective creativity, which makes this possible. It marks the shift from the analog age of production (mass merchandise through machines, mass culture etc.) to the age of digital distribution (data, media, personalization: the mass as a collective of individuals). Apps on terminal devices are the global testing stations for this new art form.

The Special Award Sound Art – €10,000

Sound Art refers to all developments in which sounds are processed artistically. The productions may be diverse: whether data is sonified, audiovisual works created, or innovative DJ tools applied – the possibilities of combining music and apps are numerous. New technologies accompany perceptual transformations of sound, space, time, movement and form. The Special Award Sound Art responds to these diverse possibilities resulting from the interaction of app and sound.

Special Award for Game Art – €10,000

Game Art is directed at all independent app developers who work at innovative, critical and/or subversive computer games and hence use this medium as an artistic form of expression.

Take part!

Applications for the AppArtAward will be accepted until May 10 May 25th (Extended). For more detailed information on how to participate and submit your app, go to: www.app-art-award.org.
