Satromizer for iPhone is the world’s first multitouch glitch tool created by Ben Syverson and inspired by the work of Chicago new media artist Jon Satrom. Ben created many versions of the Satromizer with Jon over the years, but it is this one that is considered special as the responsiveness and tactility of the multitouch interface makes this Bens’ favourite version yet.

To use the Satromizer, simply touch the screen where you want to add a glitch. You can use multiple fingers to glitch more than one area at a time. To reset the image, just double tap. To load new images, tap the info button. You can load in images from your Photo Library, take a new photo with the Camera, or save your current glitch to the Photo Library.

Whilst I do not know how I managed to miss this app in the Appstore, I have to thank Sávio for pointing it out. We are much used to see glitched images as the end product where Satromizer allows you to gradually degrade images with touch gestures. This may not be my new every day photo app but will nevertheless fit in quite nicely alongside QuadCamera, OldCamera and TiltShiftGen. My Twitter followers will have to forgive me for the overwhelming amount of glitched images that are about to pollute their twitter feeds. Love it!

Not sure what this glitching business is all about? You better read excellent post here on CAN by Richard Almond: Digital Decay [Reference, Theory]

(thanks @saviopalm!)

Temporary.cc is the latest online project/app by Zach Gage. Part bot, part website, part visualization, for each unique visitor it receives, Temporary.cc deletes part of itself. These deletions change the way browsers understand the website’s code and create a unique (de)generative piece after each new user. Eventually, like tangible media, Temporary.cc will fall apart entirely, becoming a blank white website. Its existence will be remembered only by those who saw or heard about it.

Virtual data isn’t subject to decay like traditional media. Despite this, we can still lose personal data to disk failure, viruses, or accidental deletion. Unlike personal data however, data on the internet has a seemingly infinite shelf-life. Between search-engine caching, cloud-hosting, re-blogging, plagiarizing, and the way-back machine, the net collects and eternally stores vast amounts of information.

Temporary.cc was inspired by Jonah Bruker-Cohen’s work on distributed network art at coin-operated.com. Music by Edwin Morris from gratisvibes.com
