Created by our own Emilio Gomariz (CAN posts) with sound by Dylan Fisher , 114.psd Type is a simple typography designed with the help of Mac OS X, a progression from Folder Type piece Emilio created 2 years ago. The idea for this type came in when seeing that this operative system remembers the position of any file or window when you minimize and maximize it. He created 114 photoshop files (using only six colors). He then placed and ordered the files in the right position before minimizing them in the dock. From then on, a form of performance, where Emilio opens one by one from the dock.

Devised by Erin Shirreff and programmed by Seth Erickson, Shadow, Glare is an exploration into how light might begin to change the nature of your “immaterial” computer desktop screen creating a subtle but effective illusion of passing light as you immerse into your daily work….

Shadow, Glare explores such experiential disruptions through a subtle visual intervention: Without altering the computer’s normal operations, the program renders a morphing series of translucent forms that seem to float between the screen’s real surface and the immaterial desktop. This simulation can blend unobtrusively with any actual shadows that happen to be cast on the screen; users may continue to work or browse while only peripherally aware that the program is running. Besides the beautiful icon, LiveView is a remote screen viewing application for the iPhone intended to help designers create graphics for mobile applications. The site suggest three good uses:

FOR VISUAL DESIGNERS — Develop pixel–perfect graphics for the iPhone and iPad quickly and easily with a live view of your canvas/artboard while you work.

FOR INTERACTION DESIGNERS — With your iPhone or iPad tethered via WiFi, you can interact with software prototypes and demos running on your Mac to communicate and iterate your concepts quickly.

FOR EVERYONE — If you’ve ever needed to press a button from afar or wished that you could take a piece of your monitor with you across the room, this app may prove useful from time to time.

There are two parts to the application. App that runs on the iPhone and desktop app you can download here. LiveView works very similar to VNC clients and servers except instead of viewing the whole screen you move the iPhone image on the screen to isolate an area you’d like to view on your iPhone. Very nice indeed.

Digital: A Love Story is set ‘five minutes into the future of 1988′ and created by Christine Love. The game is set entirely within an Amiga Workbench desktop where you are a BBS user meeting someone via a message sent to you. You send messages back and forth allowing the story to evolve.

LastHistory allows you to analyze music listening histories from Last.fm through an interactive visualization and to explore your own past by combining the music you listened to with your own photos and calendar entries. It is available as a desktop application for Mac OS X v10.5 or higher.

Included are two modes, optimized for a different use case. Analysis Mode can be used for interactively analyzing an arbitrary listening history (not necessarily your own) in three basic dimensions: time, tracks and genre. Integrated tools like searching, playlist highlighting, mouse-over information, and zooming allow to generate insight for the visualized music listening history in each of those dimensions. Personal Mode adapts the visualization shown in Analysis mode for exploring your own past: by adding photos from your iPhoto library and calendar entries from iCal to the visualization, you can reminisce about your past by listening to the top tracks from your last vacation while watching a slide show of the corresponding photos.

LastHistory

The application was created as part of Frederik Seiffert‘s thesis (Diplomarbeit) at the Media Informatics Group of the University of Munich, supervised by Dominikus Baur.

Formerly known as MousePath, IOGraphica was created by Moscow designer Anatoly Zenkov to brighten up the routine work. Posting it at Flickr caused informal interest and afterward Anatoly Zenkov and his colleague Andrey Shipilov decided to evolve the app.

IOGraphica is an application that tracks your mouse movements and converts them into a single image showing all the paths you have made with your mouse. The idea is that you just run it and do your usual day stuff at the computer. Go back to IOGraph after a while and grab a nice picture of what you’ve done. Besides the mouse path, the application also tracks your idle time, displaying it as circles of varying radius depending of how much time you spent away from the computer. You can either use blank canvas or tell application to capture your current desktop as an underlay.

X3 Studios just launched The Wallpaper Application, web-application that allows anyone to create personalized wallpapers on the fly.

You begin with a simple background and from the left hand side menu you can choose a number of graphics elements you want to add. These can be scaled, coloured and rotated all with drag and drop. Text is also included with some pretty cool fonts as well as ability to share and download your creations.
