In the final week of the last year’s fall 10-week program at the School for Poetic Computation (SFPC), students presented their work in progress and its underly ideas in a public showcase. Here is a selection of projects that were presented.

Material Want is a collaborative project between Matthew Plummer-Fernandez and JODI, presented at iMal, Brussels between Sep – Oct 2016. The project is an assemblage of interrelated elements: mined 3D models, 3D-printed objects, a shop-front installation and an online shop, powered by both software automation and human computation.

Earlier this year SFPC in NYC was the host to alt-AI, a conference organised by Lauren Gardner and Gene Kogan to highlight and question artificial intelligence through the lens of artistic practice.

New in the series of exhibitions organised by London’s data design agency Signal-Noise, “Place Your Bets” takes place at the Studio 2, 31 New Inn Yard, Shoreditch from Fri 16 until Tues 20 Sept 2016.

In December 2015, SFPC were invited to participate at Day for Night festival in Houston, TX. SFPC co-founder Zach Lieberman, students from the fall 2015 session, and the larger SFPC community worked together to create ‘SFPC re-coded’, a project that presented over 50 animations from more than 30 different contributors.

Taking place at Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Lima between 17 March – 19 June, New Realities is a touring exhibition curated and produced by Alpha-ville which explores how the phenomenal pace of technological advancement is changing the way we perceive ourselves and our world.

Latest in the series of productions by Japan’s BRDG label and Hip Land Music is the performance by Akihiko Taniguchi titled ‘Something Like Me / About Seeing Things’.
