Last week The Mill unrevealed their rear projected, 5’x 3’ interactive touch screen which is an interactive visualization of their portfolio (spanning 20 years) developed in Cinder. What makes this screen unique is extensive effort behind design and software development by the NY Digital team comprising Andrew Bell and an incredible group designers, flash developers and digital artists. For those that may be unaware, Andrew Bell is the main person behind Cinder, powerful, intuitive toolbox for creative programming, previously an in-house tool at the Barbarian Group where Andrew worked, now open sourced and developed by Andrew as part of the Mill’s R+D. We got a chance to to ask Andrew about the project including some making-of details and features we will see in future releases of Cinder, including the forthcoming Cinder Timeline API – tweening library.

Toxiclibs is a a growing selection of Processing classes created for mostly computational design projects by Karsten Schmidt. 2.5 years of ongoing development the collection consists of: 128+ classes, 18 packages bundled into 7 libraries, altogether >14k lines of code!

Even though these libraries have been mainly developed for use in Processing related projects (see examples below), there is no explicit dependency on the Processing toolkit. Currently available packages include toxi.audio, toxi.color, toxi.geom, toxi.math, toxi.physics, toxi.image.util and toxi.util.datatypes.

With the latest update Karsten has posted some additional information/examples of usage you cans see below. The next step are online tutorials which should be coming soon. To have a play, just download the appropriate package, move the libraries into your processing sketchbook/library folder and load the .pde example files.

The video below is the first community showreel of works produced with toxiclibs.

You can find more + detailed information at toxiclibs.org, follow Karsten on Twitter or keep an eye on his Postspectacular blog.
