Making openFrameworks Work – Users and educators gather in Denver, Colorado

In late February 2016, a group of openFrameworks users and educators gathered in Denver Colorado to work on improving the ways people learn and use openFrameworks (OF). They worked intensely for 3.5 days, 12 hours per day, collectively committing more than 800 people-hours to creating and improving openFrameworks learning resources to help students around the world learn how to create with this powerful digital arts and design tool.

Rec All – A puzzling universe of (multitouch) creatures

Created by Romain Cazier at ECAL, Rec All is an interpretation of the geometrical style puzzle games, widely popular on mobile. Taking some of this genre’s features, Romain designed a singular universe, where strange creatures with a cyclic behaviour are generated from a simple gesture.

GLASS / G3DP – 3D printing of optically transparent glass

Created as a collaboration between Mediated Matter Group (MIT Media Lab) and the Glass Lab (MIT), GLASS G3DP is a additive manufacturing process that enables 3d printing of optically transparent glass that also allows tunability by geometrical and optical variation that drives form, transparency, color variation, reflection and refraction in all things glass.

F21Thread – A display made of 6,400 spools of thread

A 2,000 lb machine that uses 6,400 mechanical spools of thread to display Instagrams is the latest project by NY based collaborative BREAKFAST. The team are streaming live online 24 hours a day from July 22-28th, and users receive an auto-edited video of their Instagrams being displayed on the screen.

Thymio meets ECAL – A workshop with 50 Thymio Robots

Earlier this year at ECAL (Lausanne/Switzerland), students were asked to develop projects using the Thymio robot during a one week workshop. Students worked then in group with the task to make Thymio(s) write a word, all those words was then put together to form a sentences that you can discover in the video below.

After the experiments in physical programming in the “Traces” project we reported on last year, Dana Zelig decided to examine the possibility of adjusting the plastic to fabrics, by means of pressing them together, allowing the heat to manipulate the plastic, and the manipulated plastic to effect the adjusted fabric.
