James Leng – Point Cloud

‘Point Cloud’ – Arduino structure by James Leng breathes weather data

Created by James Leng, Point Cloud is an attempt to re-imagine our daily interaction with weather data. Even with the modern scientific and technological developments related to weather and when we can deploy sophisticated monitoring devices to document and observe weather, our analysis and understanding of meteorology is still largely approximate. Weather continues to surprise us and […]

Approxymotion and MisPortraits – Geometry, drawing, material and robotic arms..

Approxymotion and MisPortraits are two projects by Peter A Vikar currently an ESTm post-graduate studies at Sci-Arc, Los Angeles, designing material interactions with six-axis robot arms. Approxymotion is research project focusing on motion based forming while MisPortraits looks at the levels of accidentally with 6 axis robots doing feltpen graphics.

Kinetic Logo at Deutsche Bank [c++]

In the redesigned Deutsche Bank headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, the BrandSpace designed to provide an insight into the bank’s history, present, business areas and its brand philosophy. The Deutsche Bank Logo by Anton Stankowski is used as a starting point for ART + COM for spatial design and is translated into three-dimensional kinect structure.

Parhelia [vvvv]

Parhelia by Paul Prudence is a real-time A-V performance piece where sample based mechanical sounds are used orchestrate a family of concentric forms in space. The vvvv scenes suggest the workings of a imaginary machine where its component parts, or ‘gears’ interact with one an another triggering corresponding sounds. Parhelia uses direct translation of sound to […]

Björk – Biophilia [iPhone, iPad, Sound]

Biophilia is an iPhone/iPad release of Björk’s latest album created in collaboration with Scott Snibbe and her longtime design collaborators M/M (Paris). Comprising a suite of musical pieces and interactive artworks, Biophilia is released as ten in-app download experiences that are accessed through a three-dimensional galaxy, the album’s theme song Cosmogony. The first single Crystalline, […]

Fragments of RGB [Processing]

Created by onformative, Berlin based studio founded by Julia Laub and Cedric Kiefer, Fragments of RGB is a project that explores the nature of digital image, it’s construction and interaction with it. By segmenting the RGB pixels in the image and associating it to users by their proximity, the project aims to elevate individual relationships and […]

Dazzled [Cinder, MaxMSP]

Created by David Dalmazzo, Dazzled Project is an attempt to compose a generative particle environment that could at the same time create structures and sounds. The application uses both MaxMSP and Cinder via OSC bridge allowing sounds generated from max be fed directly into Cinder app which generates the visuals. I would like to program patterns […]

Kinetic Pavilion [iPad, Processing, Scripts]

This is a preliminary test model of a kinetic pavilion by Yannick Bontinckx and Elise Vanden Elsacker. The final model will contain 28 servo motors controlled by an Arduino Mega and a Duemilanove board all connected to Rhino & Grasshopper via FireFly. The demo movie below includes a TouchOSC & gHowl setup which allows the structure to be controlled via […]

Dynamic Structure 29117 [c, Objects]

Dynamic Structure 29117 is the latest in the collection of kinetic structures created by Willem van Weeghel in the last year. The 29117 is a mural object with dimensions of 4.20 x 2.80 m. It consists of a white background and 32 dark blue lines. These lines (made of thin stainless steel and carbon) can all rotate […]

Jacob’s Cave [Cinder]

Latest from David Wicks (sansumbrella) and selected for the WrittenImages book is this beautiful geometrical study created using Cinder. David writes: Jacob’s Cave developed in response to seeing a range of helictite formations in a show cave in Missouri. Helictites grow downward, but also spiral up when the influence of forces like capillary action become stronger than gravity. […]

mosCells [Processing]

In the summer of 2009 Michael Meredith of MOS Architecture approached George Michael Brower to develop an application that would allow MOS to explore permutations of a certain type of structure they were prototyping on paper (see image at the bottom). Michael refers to the structures as “pads,” “lillies,” or “cells.” Each cell may have two […]
