Besides the beautiful icon, LiveView is a remote screen viewing application for the iPhone intended to help designers create graphics for mobile applications. The site suggest three good uses:

FOR VISUAL DESIGNERS — Develop pixel–perfect graphics for the iPhone and iPad quickly and easily with a live view of your canvas/artboard while you work.

FOR INTERACTION DESIGNERS — With your iPhone or iPad tethered via WiFi, you can interact with software prototypes and demos running on your Mac to communicate and iterate your concepts quickly.

FOR EVERYONE — If you’ve ever needed to press a button from afar or wished that you could take a piece of your monitor with you across the room, this app may prove useful from time to time.

Inspired by and created to support the vibrant prototyping culture at IUAV.

There are two parts to the application. App that runs on the iPhone and desktop app you can download here. LiveView works very similar to VNC clients and servers except instead of viewing the whole screen you move the iPhone image on the screen to isolate an area you’d like to view on your iPhone. Very nice indeed.

Created by Nicholas Zambetti, one of the Arduino founders.

Using VNC protocol Jaadu allows you to access your computer from anywhere using your iPhone/iPod Touch. With its intuitive touchpad-like interface, Jaadu gives you full control of your computer’s mouse and keyboard, and provides a rich visual display of your computer screens, without any screen resolution limit.Â

We purchased Jaadu back in september, working on Open Tables installation when we had 9 computers we needed to control in case there were problems with them. Jaadu proved to be an indispensable tool, allowing us to access each of the projection/interface applications and restart them as necessary. With a simple click in the Jaadu bookmarks we were given full control over the machine connected to including keyboard and mouse controls. Considering that most of the computers we not easily accessible, located in drawers and cabinets, with a single click we could force quit applications, restart and re-open.Â

With macs it’s pretty simple as all the software to control your mac comes included in the latest OS. With Windows it is slightly different and you need to use one of the freely available VNC packages to allow your Jaadu to access it. We used TightVNC and it worked great. Simple install, set your log/pass and you are ready to go.

Cursor movement on Jaadu is incredibly intuitive. You will find that after only couple of minutes of using it, navigating your computer’s desktop is easier and more conformable that with a trackpad. Easing in and out if perfectly balanced and clicking on the smallest elements on your screen is very easy. This is especially the case if (like shown in the video) you are controlling a computer with a large screen in front of you. You will hardly need to look at your iPhone’s screen to know where your cursor is pointing thus the setting in Jaadu to not display your computer’s screen but just to use it as a cursor navigation tool.

Latest release of Jaadu also includes 3-finger gestures for your Mac: horizontal swipe for task switcher, vertical swipe to view all windows / desktop, very much similar to the recently released unibody MacBooks.

Here is a list of features:

* Control any application on your Mac or Windows PC desktop from anywhere in the world
* Visit Flash-based websites from your iPhone (video/audio streaming is not supported)
* Access your computer’s files from anywhere
* Advance PowerPoint slides while reading your presenter notes
* Control your media player from anywhere
* Use your iPhone as a wireless touchpad + keyboard + media remote
* Supports Ctrl-Alt-Del and other combination keystrokes
* Supports Leopard Screen Sharing, Tiger Remote Desktop, and all Windows VNC servers: TightVNC, RealVNC, and UltraVNC. Also supports Linux VNCServer (tested on CentOS 5).
* Supports VPN-based encryption: Use AnchorFree’s FREE iPhone VPN with Jaadu for added security. Team is working on native encryption for an upcoming release.

If you find the full version a little too expensive, there is also Jaadu Click (Lite), available for $9.99 that does not include keyboard support.Â

Jaadu is a fantastic VNC tool for anyone owning an iPhone. Whilst we haven’t tried other VNC applications in the AppStore, it is mentioned in the Jaadu description that it is currently the only application with automated set-up, for both local and “connect from anywhere” connectivity. If you have computers you need to control locally or remotely, home or at work, purchasing Jaadu should be worth every cent.

Visit Jaadu website for more videos and information.
