418 12seconds [WebApp]

12seconds is a relatively newcomer in the world of social networking. Currently in private alpha, 12seconds brings together the concept of miniblogging (twitter) and video recording. Utilising flash video, it allows you to record 12 seconds of yourself and post for other users to comment. Similar to twitter but instead of posting 140 characters, you post 12 seconds of video.

The team at 12seconds regularly posts challenges, today’s being ‘Toilet Paper: do you crumple of fold’ allowing you to win prizes.

You can also upload videos, post using your phone by sending your video message to an email and connect it to twitter so when you post a video an update to your twitter is also posted.

The site does appear pretty busy and there are a lot of interesting videos to scan through.

The site is new and under development. The logo is encouraging but some web elements do require work to make it more visually engaging. Taking twitter for example and the resent redesign shows that clean/simple interface look really works. Unfortunately, 12seconds feels a little like a personal blog built using a default theme. We do hope that the team will/are thinking about the design overhaul nevertheless it’s still early days and we have high hopes for 12seconds.

As mentioned earlier, 12seconds is in private alpha. We have few invites to give away so if you would like to try out the service, leave a comment below and we’ll drop you an invite.
