Dopplr [WebApp]
Dopplr is an online tool for frequent travelers. The idea is simple. You enter your travel details, city, dates, description and you can share that data with your fellow travelers and friends.
Adding a trip is easy. Just fill in the destination. You can use place names, airport codes or even postal codes, and Dopplr will try to figure out where you’re going. The database of place names doesn’t include everything, but it’s quite comprehensive. Then click the start date of your trip. A calendar will pop up (or down) to let you select the day (2) you plan to arrive in the new place. Then fill in the finish date the same way and add an optional note describing why you’re taking the trip. This note will be visible to people you share trips with.
You can update your travel data via text messages, twitter updates, email, facebook app and widgets.
In addition to also being able to subscribe using iCal or other calendar apps to your friends’ trips you can also automatically build your own travel carbon profile. Working with AMEE (â€The World’s Energy Meterâ€) who are an impartial platform that work with many organisations that collect data or propose solutions, Dopplr notes your carbon footprint profile that you’ll be able to eventually reuse with other services.
There is also a group on flickr set-up to show off your Dopplr destination stickers. Created using Moo service, there is an API available that you can use.
Dopplr is a great service and not just for frequent travelers. We can take long time to plan our trips and what better way to do this than by sharing it with your friends. You friends will know about your trips and maybe even join you because their travel dates do not clash with yours. You can leave tips for cities or tell other members what you thought about their tips. A really great traveling tool for anyone.
