456 Mixin [WebApp]

Mixin let’s you share your daily agenda, say where you’ll be, what you’ll do, make propositions or say that you’re available. You can do it from your current calendar application, by Email, SMS, IM or via twitter. If you are using Twitter, Mixin watches your updates and recognizes ’plans’.

Mixin gives you few suggestions about your next update: “plans”, “proposes”, “is available”, “is” and “would like”. Typing (plans) “to write about mixin @office today” will recognize ”office” as the location adding more information and “today” being full day on the date posted the message. You can also be more specific such as “quarter to six”, “twenty five to nine” and so on..

Beautifully designed, with very nice javascript menus, its a real pleasure to browse the site. Connecting with people is pretty easy and all the details of the site are self explanatory. Your updates/propositions are visualized in the top menu strip by days and colour. Clicking on any of them will jump to that day…nice, pretty and easy.

Besides this being quite an inspiration for your next update (tweet like post), it doesn’t actually update your status on Twitter. Not sure why this is considering it does read your twitter updates. Tighter integration with twitter or at least a mention about this would really help (should mention that it is possible to use your RSS mixin feed to update twitter using twitterfeed). Like many other great startups it all really depends on whether you can convince your friends to use it (we all know how difficult this can be at times) but Mixin does bring something new to the ‘large twitter’ table.

We should also mention that although it does appear that there are users on Mixin, you may sometimes  feel like you are on a deserted island, on your own no one there to hear your “plans” (similar to brightkite experience (sorry bk)).

All in all, this is a solid web application, something different and innovative. Try it out..
