PyroGraph – Drawing machine that listens and burns

Created by Bjørn Karmann in collaboration with Nicolas Armand and Lars Kaltenbach, Pyrograph is a CIID project inspired by the thermal printers used for receipts in all shops. The Pyrograph draws with dots burned with a 450 °C tip on to paper and listen to the ambient sound in the room and distort the same.

The Big Browser 3D @ SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul

Latest iteration of the “Big Browser” series of works by Japanese artist Akihiko Taniguchi. This time, the project takes a new twist by using it as a browser for the content of the exhibition using exhibition’s website. Further to this, Akihiko is virtually located on a Google Map, browsing the location of the gallery.

Metamaterials are engineered 3D cell grids that have properties that are not found in nature. Recently, a group of Hasso-Plattner Institute researchers (supported by a Shapeways educational grant) enhanced metamaterial design to include mechanical functionality.

Our Time is the latest large-scale installation by United Visual Artists, investigating the subjective experience of the passing of time. The installation is comprised of 21 bespoke mechanical pendulums that swing at a pace apparently unhindered by the laws of nature and where no single time measurement applies.

Presented by 3M with support provided by Accenture, Minneapolis Institute of Art is calling for submissions for Art and Technology Award which includes $25,000 in prize money and an additional $25,000 in development support, connections to industry expertise, resources and more.
