Cloud Piano (2014) by David Bowen

Cloud Piano plays the keys of a piano based on the movements and shapes of the clouds. A camera pointed at the sky captures video of the clouds. MaxMSP patch uses the video of the clouds in real-time to drive a robotic device that presses the corresponding keys on the piano.

Another Moon – Kimchi and Chips

Created by Kimchi and Chips, ‘Another Moon’ is a large-scale outdoor apparition that creates a technically sublime second moon in the sky. 40 towers collect the sun’s energy during the day and project that light back into the sky at night, creating a second moon overhead.

Infinity – New malleable subject matter by UE

Ending tonight, after a week of live streaming, is the latest in the series of artworks by Universal Everything (UE) that feature 3D humans shrouded in digital costumes. Titled ‘Infinity’, the new work is a live stream, always reshaping and evolving from one character to the next, generating an average of 3,180 unique characters per hour with a total of 50,000+ variations over the last week, stream live on YouTube, only for a few more hours!

Patterns of Harmony is an installation comprised of animated fractal of cubes, without containing any physical cubes, rather the reflections and projections of them.

Later this week CreativeApplications.Net is joining the Moscow-based sound, art and technology community MIGZ for yet another edition of the Moscow International Festival “Circle of Lights” festival taking place between 10th and 14th October.

Retune is an annual conference in Berlin bringing together artists, designers, technologists as well as researchers and scientists to inspire interdisciplinary thinking and making.

On December 23, 2023, “Hello from the Global Creative Laboratories! Vol. 2: Cultural Facilities Responding to the Times” was held at Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT), a hub for exploring creativity through art, technology, and design.

Ending tonight, after a week of live streaming, is the latest in the series of artworks by Universal Everything (UE) that feature 3D humans shrouded in digital costumes. In perceiving established cultural and historical rituals through the lens of contemporary technology, Choy Ka Fai opens up a liminal space in which dance transcends colonial resistance, power and fantasy.

Created by Michael Candy, ‘Cryptid’ is an animatronic light sculpture that uses 18 linear actuators and open source Phoenix hexapod code to walk through a space. As human and robotic, natural and synthetic are increasingly amalgamated, the projects questions whether machines could be considered a subspecies.

In November 2019, CAN joined the biannual ECAL Research Day to find out how methodologies borrowed from science and engineering can strengthen creative practice—and drive the conversation.
