CarbonScape – Pollution soundscape by h0nh1m

Created by h0nh1m (Chris Cheung) CarbonScape is a kinetic data soundscape installation consisting of 18 tracks of granular synthesized sound samples. They are collected from the sound sources where carbon footprints are left – sound from the jet engine, steam from the factory or horn of the ship – all composed into a single soundscape.

Prismverse – Spatialising paths of light inside a diamond

Created by XEX for Dr.Jart+, ‘Prismverse’ is an installation inspired by light rays travelling in a diamond with Brilliant cut (wikipedia) – a form that produces highest brilliance with maximized light return through its top. Surrounded by complex geometrical tessellated mirror walls, the visuals on the floor, their reflection and omnidirectional sound encapsulate the visitor.

Selected Network Studies – Network data and infrastructure as an A/V medium

Created by London-based musical duo the Network Ensemble, Selected Network Studies is a series of audiovisual pieces created using network data collected from a number of locations across London, Berlin and Rome. It is released as limited edition UV-printed, vacuum-sealed mylar package containing a 2GB SD Card with one hour of video material and 45 minutes of sound material.

interference [dac] – Cross medium light wave distortions

Created by Technical Earth (Mo H. Zareei + Jim Murphy), interference [dac] is an audiovisual installation that explores the combination and interaction of waveforms in one medium with those of another. In the installation, which includes a linear array of four miniature projectors  affixed to loudspeaker cones, sound waves affect light waves while analogue elements alter digital ones.

Imagined as a tool to provide assistance to a conventional approach to sculpting, here an AI model is developed to seek out strategies that provide a constant improvement to how a given form is achieved. By feeding it with different tools, rules and rewards through reinforcement learning, the team steer the process revealing unpredictable outcomes.

Novae explores cosmogonies – the formation of celestial objects in a constantly expanding universe.

Created by Richard Vijgen, ‘Through Artificial Eyes’ is an interactive installation that lets the audience look at 558 episodes of VPRO Tegenlicht (Dutch Future Affairs Documentary series) through the eyes of a computer vision Neural Network.

Created by Franz Rosati, ‘Latentscape’ depicts exploration of virtual landscapes and territories, supported by music generated by machine learning tools trained on traditional, folk and pop music with no temporal and cultural limitations.

Overflow is a site-specific kinetic and generative sound sculpture driven by real-time traffic cameras that monitor the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, a famous cable-stayed bridge spanning the Lower Tampa Bay connecting St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia, Florida USA.

Created by Matteo Zamagni, this video speculates the shift from organic to electronic evolutionary processes. Cybernetic organisms, partly made of organic structures and part electronic components respond to their environment in a variety of ways at an ever-increasing speed.

Created by Kynd in collaboration with Yu Miyashita (Sound), ‘Expressions’ is a series of artworks exploring the physicality of thick and bold paint-like dynamic constructs that emerge from illuminated digital space revealing an intricate play of shapes, light and shadow.

Passifolia is a collective experience, made-to-mesure for La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris and made up of 16 interactive modules organically set up in space.

Created by Yuri Sizuki (Pentagram) in collaboration with Fish Fabrications and Counterpoint, ‘The Welcome Chorus’ is an interactive installation that brings together sound, sculpture and artificial intelligence.

HALO is a large scale immersive artwork which embodies Semiconductor’s ongoing fascination with how we experience the materiality of nature through the lens of science and technology.

Created by Pierry Jaquillard at ECAL (Media and Interaction Design Unit), Prélude in ACGT is collection of tools that explore the relationship between music and biology. The project uses Pierry’s own DNA (chromosome 1 to 22) and converts it into music.

Created by Matteo Zamagni, “Horror Vacui” is a non-narrative film that explores geological formations of Earth and the frenetic hyper-development attained by humankind.

“Multiverse” is the new audio-visual installation by fuse* that draws inspiration from these concepts and, through the creation of a sequence of digital paintings, generated in real-time, attempts to represent the eternal birth and death of infinite parallel universes.

This weekend, February 3rd to 4th, we will join 230 TouchDesigner users at Derivative’s second ever TouchDesigner Summit in Berlin for an 48-hour marathon of workshops, masterclasses, and presentations.
