Solace: How We Made the Interactive Speculative Fiction

Flashing Forward at ELEKTRA 16

The sixteenth edition of Montréal’s ELEKTRA festival took place from May 13th-17th and delivered a range of audiovisual performances and installations addressing the notion of ‘post-audio’ or perception beyond sound—CAN was on hand to have our retinas singed and eardrums buzzed by the ‘POST-AUDIO’-themed programming.

Originally conceived at the start of a global pandemic as a website, +1-home now continues its life as a digital installation in a gallery, custom-made to InterAccess’s immersive projection environment as a two-player interactive experience.

Live code-able video synth and coding environment that runs directly in the browser, created by Naoto Hieda in collaboration with Pițipunk singer and artist IIOANA.

InterAccess is pleased to present the 22nd Annual IA Current Exhibition, All watched over by machines of loving grace, running November 8 – December 9, 2023.

Presented in honour of InterAccess’s 40th anniversary this exhibition, curated by Shauna Jean Doherty, celebrates Telidon, the Canadian-made technology that inspired the artists who founded InterAccess in 1983.

Artificial Imagination was a symposium organized by Ottawa’s Artengine this past winter that invited a group of artists to discuss the state of AI in the arts and culture. CAN was on hand to take in the proceedings, and given the emergence of documentation, we share videos and a brief report.

NFB and ARTE in collaboration with IDFA DocLab are calling on interactive creators to develop a mobile and interactive project for the smart phone. Ten winners, €10,000 each!

Unhanded was a symposium about ‘making under the influence of digitalism’ that took place in Ottawa last September. CAN was on hand to facilitate one of the discussions, and to mark the publication of the videos online we offer some highlights and thoughts on the proceedings.

Created by DUB-Russell (Music) and Yasuyuki Yoshida (Visuals) and produced BRDG Tokyo, BOSOZOKU is music video that combines beats and grains of sound texture created with Max/MSP and cut and paste generative video assemblage using TouchDesigner.

Earlier this year, Resonate festival was the host to Transcranial, a CAN initiated project bringing Klaus Obermaier, Daito Manabe and Kyle McDonald to Belgrade for two weeks to work on a new performance piece, creating a bridge between three festivals in Europe.

Toronto’s Egyptrixx (David Psutka) returns with his second album “A/B til Infinity” in the form of a multi-media collaboration with Berlin-based visual artist A N F – Andreas Nicolas Fischer.
