61.4223 – Technomass and Nature

61.4223 invites viewers to experience the moment of contemplative observation of a transformed landscape. Comprised of sculptural representations of German open pit mines inside a 1m³ cube, and alongside mechanisms that mimic the movement of (counterpart) excavators, the installation visualizes exactly how many cubic meters of earth have been moved since the installation started.

Created by Hugo Arcier, Ghost City is a video installation reinterpreting the set of the very popular game Grand Theft Auto V. The spectator is plunged into an environment without any population using the camera’s front clipping plane as a tool to reveal structure hidden within GTA landscape.

Digital Art of Tehran – TADAEX06

In a little over a week, the 6th edition of TADAEX festival (Tehran Annual Digital Art Exhibition) takes place at Mohsen Gallery in Tehran, Iran. It’s a strong manifestation of the digital scene in Tehran and the people who make it possible, it features Iranian digital artists as well as far reaching international network of collaborators thanks to an ongoing residency program with NODE Forum for Digital Arts.

“Reflective Sculptures: A Critique of Binary Beliefs” is a pair of kinetic sculptures by the Ontario-based artists St Marie φ Walker. Produced as part of their MFA show, the motorized devices sit halfway between poems and machines.

Created by David Bowen and titled “46°41’58.365″ lat. -91°59’49.0128″ long. @ 30m”, is a collection of five CNC routed clear acrylic cylinders capturing the water surface data from the source location.

Created by Mo H. Zareei, Rasper, Mutor and Rippler are a series of mechatronic sound-sculptures inspired by Brutalist architecture. The instruments are grouped into three different categories, based on the material and sound production mechanism they employ.

Minibuilders is a research project comprised of a family of small-scale construction robots designed to perform diverse tasks, linked to the different phases of construction, finally working together as a family towards the implementation of a single structural outcome.

Lia has been interested in the possibilities of the process involved by defining the location of the printhead, the speed of the movement and the amount of filament that should be extruded.

Captives is an ongoing series of digital and physical sculptures by Quayola and a contemporary homage to Michelangelo’s unfinished series “Prigioni” (1513-1534) and his technique of “non-finito”.

Fracture.io allowed visitors to “enter the digital space”, taking 3D scans of pose-striking partygoers to generate beautifully abstracted, full body 3D renderings.

UVA’s new installation at Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHUB) traces resonant frequencies and synchronicities occurring at the cosmic scale and explores how they relate to our sense of harmony.

Created by TEM in collaboration with Vincent de Belleval, The Beacons is a virtual environment built around a catwalk that uses a dynamic content system piped through a room sized inverted zoetrope, created from 2.5m tall, 0.5 tonne, 60rpm motorised beacons x 3.

Our Time is the latest large-scale installation by United Visual Artists, investigating the subjective experience of the passing of time. The installation is comprised of 21 bespoke mechanical pendulums that swing at a pace apparently unhindered by the laws of nature and where no single time measurement applies.

Riding high on the wave of massive interest in his most recent work “Hyper-Reality,” which depicts a super-mediated Medellín, Colombia of the near future, director/designer Keiichi Matsuda chats with CAN about augmented reality, Silicon Valley, and CGI shopping companions.
