Patterned by Nature – Transparent pixels in the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Some time ago Sosolimited and Plebian Design set out to create a large scale transparent LCD sculpture for a science museum atrium. Each pixel was designed as a piece of glass that could independently change the transparency of: from opaque black to transparent. The sculpture was designed to curve up through the atrium of the museum and display down-sampled patterns from nature, along with a high fidelity soundtrack. Almost two years later, its wonderful to see this project finally come to life.

Bit – The demise of chance and the rise of algorithm

Created bu Jonghong Park  at the University of the Arts Bremen (Digital Media Program), the installation ‘bit’ represents a natural random process based on the principle of a Markov chain. 

Constellaction – Intricate emergent behaviour using autonomous building blocks

Constellaction is an installation by panGenerator which included swarm like intelligent and light responsive tetrahedrons that evolved and branched thanks to the collaborative effort of the audience.

Phōs – An interactive web-project which deals with the complexity of light, room and time

Phōs is an interactive webproject by Daria Jelonek which deals with the complexity of light, room and time. It shows 24 hours of light in different places of the world. It is both an homage to natural light and an aesthetic experience of light.

#include red – Sound and frequency of the colour red performed on a 1,200m² screen

Created by the South Korean sound artists GRAYCODE and jiiiiin, #include red is a large-scale audiovisual installation and performance piece that explores ideas of synaesthesia (the relationship between what we hear and what we see) through the inherent frequencies within the visible spectrum and colour as a vocabulary.
