The University of Applied Sciences for Design in Schwäbisch Gmünd is seeking applications for the position of Creative Developer (Academic Staff) for the degree program “Internet of Things – Design of Networked Systems” and its PrototypingLab. We would like to fill this position as soon as possible. It is a full-time position initially for a limited period of 2 years with the pay scale 10 TV-L.

The “Internet of Things – Design of Networked Systems” BA program educates designers at the intersection of design, technology and the connected world.
Your work as a ‘Creative Developer’ includes a wide range of opportunities to connect design and technology in a meaningful and innovative way in theory and practice. You will be involved in planning, researching, facilitating workshops and assisting teaching in class. Part of your role will include to support students of all courses with projects in the PrototypingLab. Your work with students is project-centered and you support them developing exemplary solutions for topics in design and technology.
In order to build experimental function prototypes, you either use existing materials or new technologies that you have researched. You extend the options and choices at hand of connecting different devices and build up a connectivity library. A code library should be constructed and extended by documented code snippets. Novel prototyping tools should be systematically tested and made available to students.
– A degree (university or university of applied sciences) in interaction design, media informatics, product design, electrical engineering or related fields
– Basic skills in using web tools and their development environments
– Knowledge of physical computing with Arduino, Rasberry Pi, BeagleBone or other Mikrocontrollern
– Interpersonal skills and organizational skills
– Flexibility and ability to work in a team
– Good English speaking skills
