Digital technologies and code together with their social, cultural, and economic contexts are the material from and through which our future will be built. The new bachelor degree program »Code & Context« combines the areas of coding, design, and entrepreneurship and prepares students for the social, technological, and economic demands of a digitized world. At the intersection of computer science and design, this new degree program enables students to acquire practical and scientifically sound competencies and expertise through innovative learning and teaching formats.
Through a holistic approach and perspective on hardware, software and their effects, students and teachers identify and evaluate capabilities and potentials across disciplines. In doing so, they will successfully meet the social, cultural, and economic challenges of a digitized society – innovatively, future-oriented, and responsibly. For this degree program, TH Köln now offers four newly created professorships which are aligned with the program’s core areas of action, profiles, and competencies.

W2 Professorship of Smart Connected Products
In teaching, you will represent the area of smart connected products in the bachelor and master programs of the faculty. You will be involved in implementing and further developing the degree program of »Code & Context«. You will give lectures in German and English.
With your research and community activities, you will strengthen the profile of the faculty and actively seek third-party funding. You will actively participate in the self-administration of the faculty and declare yourself ready to take responsibility here.
You hold a university degree in computer science, design or related disciplines, and have a special aptitude for academic or artistic-creative or outstanding practical work. This is demonstrated by a PhD or a university professor’s official assessment on equivalent academic, artistic-creative or outstanding subject-related practical achievements. You have several years of proven relevant work experience outside of the higher education sector in the disciplines mentioned above.
Ideally, you have already gained experience in teaching and are ready to implement modern university didactics. A good command of German for those who are non-German native speakers is desired.
You also have the capability to target your actions and thinking towards the university’s long-term objectives and to work reliably and collaboratively.
