In the fine tradition of open source 3D printers, Precious Plastic is a new initiative that disseminates instructions for DIY plastic recycling and manufacturing. With blueprints for a shredder, compressor, extruder, and an injection machine, hobbyists can build tools to aid them in repurposing plastic waste into new forms. With central tenants of modularity, open source, inclusivity, and DIY, this project is aimed at a global audience that is open to rethinking their engagement of the material around them. This is a super refreshing project to learn about after enduring the 3D printing venture capital gold rush and some of its related IP wars. Check out the project trailer video below.
