Ridge scribbles is the first piece of a small series around mountain landscapes using different rendering techniques.

Then we generate tens of thousands of paths by using a gradient descent algorithm with momentum, starting at random positions on the reversed heightmap. Those paths are then rendered using one of 11 different colour palettes.
