EM Table – Exploring possible new interactions

Created by Florian Dussopt, EM table is an experimental object that is able to produce a localised electromagnetic field when switched on. The aim of the project is to explore less known aspect of energies, electromagnetic possibilities and possible new interactions.

This table is able to light up fluorescent tubes within a short range without any physical contact. An electronic circuit is embedded in the table and turns a low current into an electromagnetic field, acting directly on the gas within the fluorescent tube. The table renders energy that is otherwise invisible. Florian advises to keep mobile devices away from the table when it is switched on.

HARVEST – Mining cryptocurrency with wind to fund climate research

Created by Julian Oliver and commissioned by the Konstmuseet i Skövde, HARVEST is a work of critical engineering and computational climate art. It uses wind-energy to mine cryptocurrency, the earnings of which are used as a source of funding for climate-change research.

Pixelate – Guitar-Hero-style eating game which detects food you are eating

Students at the RCA show a prototype for digital interface built into a custom dining table that shows players which foods to eat and when. The game detects whether they’ve eaten the correct food by measuring the food’s resistance on the fork.
