Scriptographer is a scripting plugin for Adobe Illustrator. It gives the user the possibility to extend Illustrator’s functionality by the use of the JavaScript language.

Whether you want to experiment with halftone patterns or generate your own scripted tools, Scriptographer allows the creation of mouse controlled drawing-tools, effects that modify existing graphics and scripts that create new ones.

In addition, Scriptographer is also a webpage on which users can exchange scripts and ideas. You can download a number of different scripts, some very simple and some slightly more complex.

You begin by simply downloading the Illustrator plugin and first thing you will notice are two tools added to your tools palette. You now also have a new palette available at your disposal called Scriptographer -> Main. Here you can see all the scripts available. Some utilize the two newly added tools and some are more generative which you apply to existing paths, objects or raster images. You select the script by slicking on the name and the tool you want to apply it to // or **. Each script has it’s own ways of use so you will need to read up on instructions before trying to use it. Very rarely will they work as expected so learning the tool is a must, no guesswork here.
