❮ Up and down the Metaverse – Rhizomatiks on synchronicity and multilevel experiences ❯

In today’s mercurial, complex, and ambiguous world, our bodies oscillate between the virtual and the real more than ever. The world-famous collective Rhizomatiks is testing the web, presenting performances and experimental online-based systems, and approaching these situations from a variety of angles.

A collaboration between Daito Manabe (Rhizomatiks) and Kenichiro Shimizu (PELE) for Kazu Makino, ‘Come Behind Me, So Good!’ music video combines photogrammetry and mixed reality to create a seamless dream-like landscape, invigorated by Elevenplay performance.

On April 11–13th MUTEK Montréal presents the 4th edition of MUTEK_IMG, their offshoot festival focused on digital creation. CAN/HOLO was invited to curate five panels within this year’s program, that bring together leading artists and thinkers to consider pressing aesthetic and sociopolitical questions.

❮ (centiscript) – A tool for visual thinking by Satoshi HORII ❯

Created by Satoshi HORII at Rhizomatiks, (centiscript) is a JavaScript based creative code environment for creating experimental graphics. Imagined as an endless exploration from one script to another, Satoshi sees (centiscript) as a tool for visual thinking.

As the ACT Center in Gwangju, South Korea, and an all-star cast of more than sixty international artists, designers and cultural producers gear up for the inaugural edition of ACT Festival, the details of our four day program have begun to roll out – here are the highlights.

CAN is thrilled to announce the first edition of #ACTFestival – a four-day summit that combines a world class exhibition, a symposium, a performance and workshop program, and takes place November 25th to 28th / Gwangju, South Korea.

❮ Shadow – Elevenplay x Rhizomatiks ❯

Latest in the series of collaborative projects between Elevenplay and Rhizomatiks is Shadow, a performance comprised of 3 drones with a spot light and one dancer.

❮ Squarepusher x Z-Machines – The making of stupendous music machines ❯

Some seven months ago Squarepusher and WARP records released a video titled Z-Machines, comprised of hand built robots showcasing the stupendous chops of the robot guitarist, drummer and keyboard player.

❮ Timo Maas “TANTRA” – Nexus between music and a sound responsive mechanical object ❯

Machine that uses Arduino controlled ball dispensers, motorised rotating steel plates and LED lights to create a nexus between electronic music and a sound responsive mechanical object.

❮ Sound of Honda – Ayrton Senna’s Fastest F1 Lap (1989) in Light and Sound ❯

This project, a collaboration between Dentsu, Honda Motor and Rhizomatiks brings back Senna’s engine sound from that lap 24 years ago in the form of an installation set on the original Suzuka circuit that uses light and sound.
