“Evolution” is an immersive audio-visual installation and performance that celebrates the vitality of inorganic materials. The project takes its inspiration from the physics phenomenon of Cymatics, which has demonstrated that certain substances can autonomously form complex patterns in response to vibrations.

Created by David Bowen and titled “46°41’58.365″ lat. -91°59’49.0128″ long. @ 30m”, is a collection of five CNC routed clear acrylic cylinders capturing the water surface data from the source location.

An abstract representation of this landscape is created from a matrix of 529 acrylic pipes piercing the ceiling between the first and the second floor, creating organic rock-like formations on the first floor reflected as an ocean surface on the second.
