19/12/2022Ghostwriter is a project that invites us to mindfully co-create with the AI through a vintage typewriter’s tactile and physical form. Imagined as a calm meditative interface it removes all the digital distractions and takes us on an emotional journey through paper and ink.
16/12/2022Imagined as a tool to provide assistance to a conventional approach to sculpting, here an AI model is developed to seek out strategies that provide a constant improvement to how a given form is achieved. By feeding it with different tools, rules and rewards through reinforcement learning, the team steer the process revealing unpredictable outcomes.
12/12/2022Applications are now open for Antikythera’s Studio, which will host 15-18 international, interdisciplinary Studio Researchers from February to June 2023. The program is free and includes a housing provision and a monthly stipend of 4000 USD (or equivalent when not in Los Angeles). All travel and other associated program costs will also be covered by the program.
20/10/2022“Rejected By My Own Robot” is a disobedient kissing robot which is activated when the user approaches. The mechanical lips will extend towards the user as they inch closer. But the kiss will never be consummated: move too quickly or get too close and the lips will quickly retract, ultimately rejecting the user every time.…
21/02/2022Altar-3000′ is a project and a device that explores the notion of an AI prophet, a automated totem of customised belief. The home altar connects to the internet to retrieve latest betting headlines from PredictIt, humanity’s financial positions on the near future IRL.
26/01/2022‘Floating Codes’ is a site-specific light and sound installation that explores the inner workings and hidden aesthetics of artificial neural networks – the fundamental building blocks of machine learning systems or artificial intelligence. The exhibition space itself becomes a neural network that processes information, its constantly alternating environment (light conditions/day-night cycle) including the presence of the visitors.
05/01/2022In perceiving established cultural and historical rituals through the lens of contemporary technology, Choy Ka Fai opens up a liminal space in which dance transcends colonial resistance, power and fantasy.
09/08/2021From June 4th to July 4th, The Grey Space embarks on a large-scale experiment entitled Perpetual Beta. In close collaboration with a group of makers and the public, a new form of presentation is explored based on the principles of open source. The result is an exhibition of work-in-progress, where the public is invited to take a look, participate and contribute.
23/06/2021Created by Artem Stepanchuk, ‘The Transcriptions of Space’ is an experimental application (PWA) developed using deep learning algorithms that demonstrates the ability of artificial intelligence to realize the inherent human creativity.
20/01/2021Created by Saurabh Datta, ‘mi/e-metic self’ is an installation that represents a sculptural being, a memetic representation of an evolved us.
06/01/2021In November 2019, CAN joined the biannual ECAL Research Day to find out how methodologies borrowed from science and engineering can strengthen creative practice—and drive the conversation.
14/02/2020Created by Yuri Sizuki (Pentagram) in collaboration with Fish Fabrications and Counterpoint, ‘The Welcome Chorus’ is an interactive installation that brings together sound, sculpture and artificial intelligence.
29/01/2020Created by Nicolas Boillot, ‘Vectoglyph’ is a project exploring both the behaviour and implications of GPT-2 AI, a text generating model developed by OpenAI that is able to generate coherent texts in English on demand (including “fake news”).
19/08/2019Created by Filipe Vilas-Boas, ‘Tracking Skynet’ comprises the recording of a surveillance satellite whilst being under surveillance of the same.
19/08/2019Yuri Suzuki and Pentagram in collaboration with Counterpoint have re-imagined the Electronium – Raymond Scott’s instantaneous performance-composition machine.

23/01/2019The chAIr Project is a series of four chairs created using a generative neural network (GAN) trained on a dataset of iconic 20th-century chairs with the goal to “generate a classic”. The results are semi-abstract visual prompts for a human designer who used them as a starting point for actual chair design concepts.
09/08/2018Created by Waltz Binaire, Narciss is a robot that uses artificial intelligence to analyse itself, thus reflecting on its own existence. Comprised of Google’s Tensorflow framework and a simple mirror, the experiment translates self-portraits of a digital body into lyrical guesses.
