[Sinusoidal Noise] – A study of movement in sinusoidal chaos

Sinusoidal Noise is a modular light installation that uses random oscillating patterns to create a larger sense of movement. The work comprises 98 pixels each of which fades on and off at a unique frequency. These slow, detuned oscillations create the illusion of shapes emerging, where light appears to pass between pixels as they move…

DIGITALIVE, an attempt to define a Contemporary Manner

The symbiosis between users and devices allows and encourages personal performance pervasively, and breaks the boundaries between human and non-human action: today’s performance is post-human, quoting Karen Barad. The concept behind the term “live” (de visu) has vastly changed, following the technological evolution and letting a high-performance gradient emerge in everyday habits. With the aim…

Novae explores cosmogonies – the formation of celestial objects in a constantly expanding universe.

In a world constantly adjusting and adapting to new methods of communication and connection expedited by rapid technological advancements, artist Amay Kataria explores what it means to be human.

‘Far Away’ looks like a space exploration scene, materialized by 12 Sentinels in rotation, scanning the ground for a sign, a movement, a resource. These Sentinels, half scanners, half gyroscopes, activate under our eyes, in a cyclic ballet, minimal and mesmerizing

Created by Michael Candy, ‘Cryptid’ is an animatronic light sculpture that uses 18 linear actuators and open source Phoenix hexapod code to walk through a space. As human and robotic, natural and synthetic are increasingly amalgamated, the projects questions whether machines could be considered a subspecies.

Passifolia is a collective experience, made-to-mesure for La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris and made up of 16 interactive modules organically set up in space.

Created by RNDR, Open Highway is a real-time light installation visualising highway vehicles at a scale of 1:1 from the Leidsche Rijn tunnel over the A2 highway in Utrecht.

The symbiosis between users and devices allows and encourages personal performance pervasively, and breaks the boundaries between human and non-human action: today’s performance is post-human, quoting Karen Barad. Created by Kimchi and Chips and currently on view at the Somerset House in London, HALO is a new installation in the series of works by the Seoul based Mimi Son and Elliot Woods where light is sculpted to create form that exists between material and immaterial.

Developed by studio AATB, Sunny Side Up is an installation comprised of a robotic arm and a metal rod, proposing a contemporary version of the archaic typology of the sundial.

Created by Taipei based Keith Lam, Seth Hon and Alex Lai, “Cycling Wheel” in an installation and performance that borrows the concept of Marcel’s Bicycle Wheel and re-imagines it as a dynamic and interactive performative instrument, transforming its mechanics into sound and light.

Created by the artist collective WERC, “Pixi” is a digital organism located in a dutch forrest, inspired by the complex patterns that exist in nature and questions whether a technical natural phenomenon can imitate the complex aesthetics of nature or interact with it.

Created by Berlin based onformative, true/false is a kinetic sculpture comprised of arrays of circular black metal segments set in mechanical columns. Interlocking and rotating around fluorescent light tubes, the cylinders cover or expose the light to display an endless number of patterns.

Created by NY based art and architecture collective Softlab, ‘Volume’ is an interactive cube of responsive mirrors that redirect light and sound to spatialize and reflect the excitement of surrounding festival goers.

Created by Leslie Nooteboom, komorebi is a platform that uses a robotic projector and generative projections to replicate the natural reflections and shadows of sunlight. komorebi can create sunlight filtering through leaves or a dance of light and shadow.

‘Technological Nature’ is a recent short film by media artist and designer Daria Jelonek exploring the emulation of natural phenomena with technology. Auroras, rainbows, and glaring sunlight, are all recreated with everyday materials in an eerily empty domestic environment.

Created by Seoul based duo Kimchi and Chips, “The Light Barrier Third Edition” is the latest and largest in the series of works by the studio to create volumetric drawings in the air using hundreds of calibrated video projections.

PSAD Synthetic Desert III is a (semi) anechoic chamber that endeavors to emulate the silence and emptiness of the Northern Arizona desert. Initially conceived by the American artist Doug Wheeler in 1968, the project was finally realized at NYC’s Guggenheim last week as part of the Panza Collection Initiative.

Ryoichi Kurokawa sets out a new phase of his use of space with light and sound, and how different mediums can be merged in space and time as single unit. node 5:5 fills the ACC in Gwangju, South Korea with mesmerising abstract information and imagery, intoxicating the viewer in an unforgettable visual, auditory and spatial experience.

Created by TEM in collaboration with Vincent de Belleval, The Beacons is a virtual environment built around a catwalk that uses a dynamic content system piped through a room sized inverted zoetrope, created from 2.5m tall, 0.5 tonne, 60rpm motorised beacons x 3.

Our Time is the latest large-scale installation by United Visual Artists, investigating the subjective experience of the passing of time. The installation is comprised of 21 bespoke mechanical pendulums that swing at a pace apparently unhindered by the laws of nature and where no single time measurement applies.

Created by United Visual Artists, Blueprint is an installation designed to explore the relationship and parallels between natural and artificial systems – creating a visual composition that uses mathematical principles of logic that underpin life.

Created by Hugo Arcier, FPS is an installation inspired by the November 2015 Paris attacks where the visitors are invited to interact with a game controller, constructing a “memorial” from gunshots, and the only visible elements are pyrotechnic effects, gunshots, muzzle flashes, sparks, impacts and smoke.

Created by digital design studio FIELD, Spectra-3 is a physical-digital sculpture that tells three stories of communication through a choreography of movement, animated lights and spatialised sound, premiering at London’s Lumiere light festival on 14th January 2016.

Created by London based studio Nocte, Ascent is interactive installation intended to blur and at the same time highlights its surroundings. Using nature as a basis for aesthetic, Ascent is a mesmerising sight of smooth lines and soft light.
