Floating Codes – The (spatial) topology of an artificial neural network

‘Floating Codes’ is a site-specific light and sound installation that explores the inner workings and hidden aesthetics of artificial neural networks – the fundamental building blocks of machine learning systems or artificial intelligence. The exhibition space itself becomes a neural network that processes information, its constantly alternating environment (light conditions/day-night cycle) including the presence of the visitors.

Living In the Gap: In Conversation with Peter Burr

Spanning physical and virtual space, Peter Burr’s exhibition, Responsive Eye, examines contemporary life in the grid. Taking cues from minimalism and op art, the work pushes the limits of a viewer’s perception and awareness, thrusting them into that gap between what is seen and what is felt. In this interview by Daniel Glendening, Burr digs into history, things that are not there, and what it means to be fleshy bodies gathering in digital space.

Continuing his exploration of personal objects in the age of information overload, Manual Reader and Memory Device are two new devices by Ishac Bertran that address perception, personal data collection and memory.

Created by Oslo based computational design studio Void, Irregular Polyhedron Study #1 is a physical representation of the basic components of computer graphics; the vertex and the edge and explores the perceptual gap between the flat and the spacious, the analogue and the digital.

Durr is designed to create a haptic rhythm to make us notice the changing tempo of time and become more aware of both actions we take and the time we spend on things.

Created by Benjamin Muzzin for his Bachelor Media & Interaction Design at ECAL, Full Turn explores the third dimension using the frame of a flat screen. By rotating screen around its central point at very high speed, Benjamin is able to create and manipulate forms in three dimensions that can be seen 360 degrees.
