Created by Refik Anadol in collaboration with Kilroy Realty Corporation and SOM Architects, Virtual Depictions: San Francisco is cinematic and site-specific data-driven sculpture consisting of 90 minutes long dynamic visuals projected in the building lobby’s 40-foot-tall screen and visible from the street.
07/12/2015Created by convivial project, The Probable Universe is an interactive audio-visual installation generating an infinite combination of projected worlds in a physical environment using an industrial robotic arm.
19/11/2015Created and performed by Mark Wheeler (aka Mark Eats), This City is an audio-visual performance that explores what happens when a soundtrack controls the world as much as the world influences its soundtrack. The project is a combination of a soundtrack and realtime generative visuals, both played live.
22/09/2015Created as a collaboration between Mediated Matter Group (MIT Media Lab) and the Glass Lab (MIT), GLASS G3DP is a additive manufacturing process that enables 3d printing of optically transparent glass that also allows tunability by geometrical and optical variation that drives form, transparency, color variation, reflection and refraction in all things glass.
20/08/2015Conditional_Lover is a bot that unlike its counterparts that live hidden in servers, has a physical appearance with a task to automate your Tinder using its “eyes” and “fingers”. It does this by analysing photos on your phone (webcam) and then selects or rejects it (prongs) based on an algorithm that combines your preferred age, golden ratio, smile, glasses, ethnicity etc.
10/08/2015Created by the team at FIG.- Amana Prototyping Lab in Japan, Rhythmic Gymnastics is a practical experiment using a Denso VS-050S2 robotic arm. In this experiment the aim is to represent the sensibility of human movement using harsh robot mechanics.
30/07/2015Designed by Tsinghua University team led by Danqing Shi, The Field of Hope is a lighting installation for the 2015 Milan EXPO China Pavilion. It consists of 30,000 metal “straws”, each with a LED diffuser tip, functioning as a 3-dimensional pixel display field.
11/05/2015Created by Adam W. Brown in collaboration with Robert Root-Bernstein, ReBioGeneSys – Origins of Life is an extreme minimal ecosystems theoretically capable of forming the self-organizing chemistries necessary to produce semi-living molecules and perhaps even protocells.
22/04/2015In Karesansui, Aaaajiao used an algorithm and vvvv to create a landscape in a vector-field like arrangement of pitch-black mutant limbs, taking a viewer into an unsettling dystopian scenery of spawned beings growing out of the gallery’s floors, walls, and stairway, competing with each other.
07/04/2015Created by Madrid based creative studio Espadaysantacruz, Light Kinetics is an interactive light installation where the behaviour of light is controlled by a physics simulator.
23/03/2015Created by Neil Mendoza, One Degree of Freedom explores interactive projection mapping as a means to touch and interact with an object. Drawing inspiration from marble and pinball machines, the installation gives the mapping illusion an extra layer of depth.
13/03/2015Created by Kenichi Yoneda (Kynd) in collaboration with Tokyo ‘visual label’ BRDG, [BRDG020] Lilium is an audio-visual experiment that combines Kynd’s research into water colour simulation with the music by Yopparigami/Yu Miyashita.
22/01/2015An abstract representation of this landscape is created from a matrix of 529 acrylic pipes piercing the ceiling between the first and the second floor, creating organic rock-like formations on the first floor reflected as an ocean surface on the second.
18/08/2014Commissioned by Caviar House & Prunier for London Heathrow Terminal 2, “Emergence” is a new light installation by London based Cinimod studio.
28/05/2014Aerosol explores what happens when we reverse the common process of transferring physical systems into virtual ones. In this project 16 servo motors control the undulated landscape setting iron balls in continuous motion.
17/03/2014Morphogenetic Creations is a collection of works that explore the nature of complex forms that can be produced by digital simulation of growth systems.
08/01/2014Created by London based experimental architecture and design studio Minimaforms, this project is speculative life-like robotic environment that raises questions of how future environments could actively enable new forms of communication with the everyday.
10/10/2013Animalia and Caelum are two projects that take position that our idealisation, romanticism and paradoxical thinking in ecology is holding us back from finding new ways to interact with nature.
26/06/2013Real-time simulation of an underwater feeding frenzy by Robert Hodgin comprised of 7000 fish, dolphins and sharks created for Auckland War Memorial Museum.
25/06/2013Andreas Nicolas Fischer created a Python script that creates arrangements of intersecting digital sculptures in front of a “frozen” cloth simulation, similar to a traditional still life, but with no physical constraints.

13/11/2012Processing enthusiasts rejoice! There is a new book coming by Daniel Shiffman and it’s called Nature of Code. As it’s title implies this book takes phenomena that naturally occur in our physical world and shows you how to simulate them with code.
02/11/2012Since electric cars are increasingly using synthesised sounds in order to mimic the recognisable noise of the internal combustion engine, Mark McKeague explores an alternative in which the sound that the cars generate changes according to its relationship to other road users and the environment.
