Created by N O R M A L S, “The Future Fishing Training Program” is a film about a speculative device and a programme designed to allow users and companies to discover glimpses of a desirable future through stories and artefacts.
10/11/2017Created by Jayson Haebich, The Crystallisation Event explores a speculative future in which the endless digitisation and quantification of data has caused information to become supersaturated and begin a process of crystallisation. The project is presented as a speculative museum exhibit showing future artefacts from this post crystallised data world.
09/10/2017Developed at Strelka during the ‘The New Normal Program’ in 2017, ‘SHIFT’ (Arthur Röing Baer, Christian Lavista, Dmitry Alferov, Liza Dorrer) is a project that engages with stages of automation of the trucking industry in Russia, working with the socio-political, physical, and spatial particulars of logistics in the country’s vast territory.
20/07/2017Created by Filipe Vilas-Boas and Paul Coudamy, The Punishment is an installation in which a robot executes a preventive punishment for its possible future disobedience in reference of Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics.
29/03/2017Created by Stefan Schwabe in collaboration with Fraunhofer CeRRI and Sebastian Kletzander, Gutfather is a speculative design project comprising a capsule that traverses the human organism and changes its shape through the influence of microbes until it is secreted as an object-bearing imprint of the microbiome.
16/01/2017New project by Neri Oxman and the team at the Mediated Matter Group / MIT Media Lab explores the possibility of a controlled space in which seasonal honeybees can thrive year-round.
04/10/2016Created by Steffen Hartwig, On the Secret Life of Things is a series of experimental prototypes that explore the new and ubiquitous things of daily life. Using familiar objects, the objects are repurposed, limited to their original function/behaviour but re-imagined for the age of information.

15/08/2016Continuing his exploration of personal objects in the age of information overload, Manual Reader and Memory Device are two new devices by Ishac Bertran that address perception, personal data collection and memory.
06/07/2016Created by automato, Politics of Power are speculative objects/devices/fictional artefacts that question political and social implications of network ownership/control using ideology driven distribution of electrical power as an analogy.
17/02/2016Created by Luiz Zanotello at the University of the Arts, Bremen, The New Velocity is a machine designed to plot the phantom Sandy Island using digital as a new analogy for its existence. The project investigates a charting error that persisted in cartographic maps even after the advent of digital media. It speculates how data and physical phenomena are entangled, and how in contemporaneity, the two have the same weight under digital media.
22/12/2015Created by Tim Clark at the Royal College of Art, Design Interactions, High Speed Horizons is a design-driven, critical exploration into technology, innovation, big thinking, and our constantly changing attitudes towards the three, told through projected visions of alternative energies and flight.
25/06/2015Created by William Fairbrother, Alberto Ruiz Soler and Oliver Smith, ERIS—2000 is a fictional scientific instrument invented by cybernetician Erica Symms in 1971. The device was used to show and study, through a simplified simulation, the consequences of human decisions on complex systems.
16/02/2015Created by Susanna Hertrich, Jacobson’s Fabulous Olfactometer (JFO) is a sensorial prosthesis that mimics mammalian ‘flehmen’ when air pollution levels are high. The prosthetic is modeled after a sense organ that enables certain animals to sense odourless chemicals.
28/01/2015Created by Lauren McCarthy and Kyle McDonald, pplkpr is an app that tracks, analyzes, and auto-manages your relationships. Using a smartwatch, pplkpr monitors your physical and emotional response to the people around you, and optimizes your social life accordingly.
20/01/2015“Therefore I Am” is a project exploring prenatal diagnostics – the measurement of a human before birth and consequences and ethics as scientists encode our DNA further and further.
13/02/2014Speculative Sea Level Explorer is an application made using Processing that explores the possible effects flooding should the sea levels change as a result of global warming.
