CamBox is an iPhone app by Billaboop which allows you to create beatbox clips using iPhone’s built in video camera. Each sound you make triggers the recording of a short video sequence, which is stored into a box. You can then play the boxes with the touch screen and save it as a video. The jams can then be shared on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and more.

Billaboop is a company by Amaury Hazan, a music technology and interaction enthusiast. Amaury obtained his PhD in audio signal processing, music cognition and machine learning at Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, home of the Reactable project. He has published several works in international conferences and journals and contributed to the success of recent mobile projects such as RjDj. Billaboop now collaborates with partners to bring mobile innovation to the larger audience.

Created by Eric Rosenbaum at the  MIT Media Lab + Lifelong Kindergarten, MmmTsss is a free application for playful sound looping. Pressing the mouse button will allow you to attach a sound to a track. You can increase or decrease volume of each track or use plus or minus to increase or decrease tempo. Left and Right arrows allow you to move between the tracks to either selectively switch some off or to add additional sounds.

MmmTsss is available for both Mac and Windows and can be downloaded here.

What does “MmmTsss” mean?
It’s a sound: a bass drum in your throat (mmm) and then a little hi-hat on your teeth (tsss). Do this over and over, bobbing your head, and you’ve got your own party. Mmmtsss mmmtsss mmmtsss mmmtsss….

Multi Touch Sound Storm is a project by Subcycle Labs, the work of Christian Bannister a musician, designer and developer located in Portland, Oregon. A visual, multi touch interface to interact with sound combining beat slicing, granual effects, navigate the beat back and forth packaged in a minority report type transparent overlay of three dimensional objects constantly changing and fluctuating with the interactive motion. The video below is so rich that it is actually quite hard to follow what is actually going on but nevertheless a wonderful experience in skilful hands of the person interacting with the device.

Three-dimensional forms morph and vibrate using visuals programmed in Processing, making architectural-organic shapes and spaces that really begin to “look” like sound. These forms can represent synthesis and effects parameters (Christian has done some work with the Massive synth from Native Instruments), or can allow navigation through loops using touch. Gestures remap offsets and duration for audio, scrub and slice, and apply granular resynthesis.

Here are some of the additions in the latest build:
3D sound visuals for the texture of the sound, Switching between song segments with controller (old Kaoss pad in front of screen) and no I am not using Live (yet), Random color when new sound is selected, Integration of the joystick array (my Costa Rica project 2007.12.28), Real-time effect controls (distortion, bitcrush, delay/feedback, timestretch FX), Zoom and rate control of the sound, One shot effects on USB keypad next to the controller.

The system currently includes single touch – loop navigator, forward/rewind – two fingers upper half of screen, scrub – two fingers upper half of the screen, four fingers – granular synthesis, first nav toggle – beat slicer, second nav toggle – reverse.
