  • For the fourth time, KIKK Festival will take over Namur, Belgium to showcase the latest movers and shakers in the worlds of digital art and design. KIKK brings together the world’s most talented creative coders, innovators, designers, artists and researchers.

On November 6 & 7, a unique FREE event will unite artists, technologists, designers, professionals, students, and any creative mind interested in exploring state of play and its relationship with creativity and technology. Expect thrilling talks, fascinating interactive installations, unique workshops and stunning live performances.

    The State of Play

Artists have the capacity to turn ideas upside down, bend thinking systems and disrupt the existing values to create the unexpected, the innovative, the creative idea. This subversive attitude is also inherent to children who are doing it naturally when playing. The creative process involves in some way to use our inner child to take a fresh look at world. Too often technology is associated with ideas of coldness and rigidity. We have chosen to explore this “State of Play” at the festival this year to debunk those false images and show the inventiveness of artists when they start creating using their inner child.

    Moving away from the computer

Moving away from the computer screen and into physical space is a common approach adopted by many artists invited at the festival. Zach Lieberman, artist, co-creator of openFrameworks who also teaches at the School for Poetic Computation will show how software and hardware can be mixed in expressive ways. His work uses technology in a playful way to break down the fragile boundary between the visible and the invisible. Mouna Andraos founder of the Montreal based interaction design studio Daily tous les jours will talk about their different projects focused on participation in public spaces. They design playful intreractive installations re-echanting everyday life and stimulating playful encounters, conversations, and ultimately, igniting in people a sense of what is possible.

    audience

Casey Neistat’s main body of work consists of dozens of short playful homemade films he has released exclusively on the Internet which have been viewed over 70,000,000 times. German artist Benedikt Groß is a speculative and interaction designer working across disciplines. He has a playful approach with data in many of his projects exploring the relationships between people, their data and environments like in the Big Atlas of LA Pools an extensive project based geolocation of pools in LA. Through 30 conferences at KIKK (with among others Random International, Onformative, Adam Magyar, and many more) discover how artists use the  playfulness  of being a kid in their every practice.

    Feeling, hearing and experiencing

KIKK is also about feeling and experiencing interactive installations, artworks and innovative projects in the exhibition but also learning through an avant-garde program of workshops. This year the exhibition include playful works from Espada y Santa Cruz, SoniceDevelopment, Samuel St-Aubin, Lab212, David di Duca, Lorenzo Bravi, Adam Magyar and many more. KIKK will also bring its share of networking with the KIKK Market (hardware projects, makers, DIY and crafts) and fun with KIKK parties and live performances such as Slow Magic, Lucrecia Dalt, Forma X, and more surprises.
