Ivy Noise is an interactive installation comprising 87 speakers, 2 mics, 16 MP3 players, notebooks and MaxMSP software.
Electric cables climb the walls inspired by the study on the growth of ivy. The growing black lines on white plaster imitate branches from which leaves grow, speakers of varying sizes. The speakers combine sounds of synthesis processes which emulate the sounds of natural origin where others reflect the presence of certain human activities. Two microphones pick up all noise which is sampled and processed by MaxMSP software applying random functions and played through the speakers. Voices, footsteps, movements, are the food of the installation, just as the ivy is a parasite and feeds on the host organism. The installation energy is nourished by the visitors.
