Edge is an award winning platformer available for the iPhone. The task is to control your cube across ever changing isometric environment with a number of puzzles to solve and obstacles to avoid. What may appear as a puzzle at first is quickly transformed into a game where your fast reaction is the key. Not for the light hearted, Edge can get quite fast paced and at times you may feel like you are playing with the most precious cube ever. Taking the wrong turn or just not being fast enough or maybe just too careful will cost you. The game is all about finishing the level (26 in total) as fast as you can, and you are graded, so sitting back and waiting around is not what Edge is about, ie as the title suggests. Edge is about fast pace, moving your cube in a near harmony with it’s environment and being on the edge.
Edge adopts slightly retro graphics, consistent throughout the interface and gameplay. Beautifully designed menus, icons and the levels make the game truly enjoyable. A nice addition is the tilt controls although it is something we can see using once we have completed all the levels, which definitely adds to the replay value. We were also very pleased to see that should you make an error and fall off the “edge” you continue where you left of rather than restarting the level. This allows you to take more risks which is great and not be too worried if you miss the edge. Perfection, of course, is the key and your movement through the level for your cube to be in harmony with the landscape.
Edge won Best Mobile Game Milthon Award” (Video Games Festival) and has been nominated for the Excellence in Gameplay award at the International Mobile Gaming Award competition. Even more reason to add it to your shopping cart.
