Signing In

If you are having issues logging in, for example, you enter login and password, click login, and you are still logged out, the issue may be related to your browser cookie for CAN being corrupt. Go to your browser preferences and find website data (search for creativeapplications.net), and delete this website data. Your login should work as expected.

Try logging out first and logging back in. Sometimes, the system doesn’t recognise that you are logged in due to cookie corruption. Once you log out, you should be able to log back in as expected.

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it’s not there, the email may have been delayed. You can try the password reset page to verify your account exists — if a reset email arrives, your account is active. If you continue to have issues, contact us at members@creativeapplications.net.

Password is what you use to sign into the website. App Password is required to interact with the API. The iOS App for example (uses API) allows both but in fact uses App Password automatically even when you sign into with your regular password. This is all done in the background.

Account

Because we bill only once a year, some members forget if they registered and when. You can check if your account exists by trying to reset the password. If your account expired, it was most likely deleted and you will need to re-register.

No. We also offer Stripe subscriptions and via Apple using our Activity for iOS app in the App Store.

We are all about our community and believe in the long term commitment. We also try to keep our annual costs low and whereas other websites may charge you $8-10 per month, we ask only $20 for the whole year.

Yes. It is possible to set one up for a friend using the Stripe Payment System, but it is not possible to gift an account by setting up another using PayPal.

Usernames can not be changed. We only offer to change your username if you have accidentally used your email address or your real name as the username but wish for this to remain private. If you would like to make this change, please get in touch with us with your preferred username at members@creativeapplications.net

Please click here to visit account cancellation page. If you subscribed through Apple, open Activity for iOS and go to Profile → Manage Account, or on your device go to Apple Account → Subscriptions.

You can reset your password at the password reset page. Enter the email address associated with your account and you’ll receive a reset link.

No problem; please email us at members(at)creativeapplications.net or use the contact form.

Activity iOS/Web

The main difference is the length of content. Projects are usually quite long articles whereas News tend to be short. Events are even shorter relying heavily on metadata. Both Projects and News are public whereas Events are members-only.

Regular submissions are used by the public whereas Member submissions are submitted by our Members.

If you go to #themes channel and tap on the paint palette, the custom theme will be applied. Alternatively if you’d like to create your own, visit /edit-profile/ on the website and customise the theme how you like. Your new theme will propagate to the custom theme in Activity iOS app.

Tap new to create a new Activity entry. You will now see a few options to insert image, photo, liveURL and Code. Use liveURL button to add a URL where your p5js/three.js/html is located. Tap ✔️ to include. You can also add code by tapping on the code button. When you publish your entry, your sketch will appear in the Activity feed. Only one visual media can be used at a time, eg photo with code or liveURL with code. It is not possible to add image + liveURL, one visual element at a time.

Filters are pre-defined Activity post types. For example when someone registers, this is catalogued under “Member”. If someone saves an article, this is catalogued under “Saved”. Your Actions are also a filter, ie entries that you have created. Channels on the other hand are like #tags. You can use existing ones or create a completely new one. They are useful to keep an eye on a topic, contribute to a topic, or simply track new posts related for (for example) #themes.

No, who needs more notifications! It does however have Widgets that will show you whenever there is a new unread entry. They come in all shapes and sizes, including the lock screen widgets. Simply tap on your Home Screen and look up Activity and then pick the widget you’d like to add.

Guest account is the not-logged-in state for visitors. Guests can browse the first page of the Activity feed, change default themes and use one custom theme set by CAN admins. This one custom theme changes each week. Guests can also look up Member Profiles of members in the feed.

No. Guests can only access first page of the Activity posts using the Activity iOS app. On the web, guests can see Introduction to Activity page that also includes latest actions in Activity.

In the Activity iOS app, open sidebar, tap Settings, and you will see a small flashing dot above “Theme”. This means that the app is getting your latest theme from the server. Once it does, it will update the appearance of the app. Also make sure that the theme is set to “Custom” in the app.

Sadly no. However, we do offer API to all Members so no reason why you can’t build one yourself. See here for more info.

Use @username in your comment or post. The username will auto-link to their profile, and they will receive an email notification if they have not seen the mention after a few days. As you type, matching usernames will appear as suggestions.

Daps are the appreciation system in Activity — similar to likes. Tap the star icon (✧) on any entry to dap it; the icon fills (✦) to confirm. Entry authors can see who dapped their posts. You can also filter the feed by “My Daps” to revisit entries you have appreciated.

Yes. Each Activity entry has its own permalink on the web. In the iOS app, opening a shared Activity link will launch the app directly to that entry if Activity is installed on your device.

The week browser is a chart at the top of the Activity feed showing post volume across the current week. The page URL updates with the week and year so you can bookmark or share a specific week’s activity with other Members.

Yes, you can delete your own Activity entries. Tap or click the options on any of your entries and select delete. This permanently removes the entry from the feed.

Activity tracks many things automatically, not just posts you write. Saving an article, updating your bio or location, subscribing to the newsletter, adding an event, or joining CAN all generate entries. These automatic entries help the community stay close and for us to learn from each other. If you wish to disable this, see /edit-profile/.

When you update your bio, location, website, Instagram, or Twitter/X handle, a corresponding entry appears in the feed so the community can see you are active and discover more about you. Location updates show an interactive map. You can update all of these at /edit-profile/.
