After a well-deserved break, we’re now stepping into 2025 with fresh energy and renewed focus. As a community-driven platform that thrives on understanding how technology shapes society, we’re excited to set out our mission for 2025. This year is a crucial moment for us, and we’re reaching out to you—our readers—to join us in shaping the next chapter of CAN.
Over the last year, we have made significant progress across several areas of CAN. Our Archive continues to evolve and we’ve also laid the groundwork for a new Tools taxonomy, expected to launch in early 2025. Our Books section has expanded and we’ve introduced real-time data export for articles, members, and people—accessible via URL or downloadable as .csv—to support researchers and enthusiasts in analyzing and visualizing CAN Archives. All members now have profile pages on CAN with projects, links and other enhancements, reflecting the increasing number of member submissions that enrich CAN. Lastly, we’ve revamped CAN Front Page, improved search functionality, updated People pages, and a added a full content RSS Feed for our members. These continuous updates are made possible thanks to your ongoing support!
Looking ahead into 2025, the CAN Archive remains a priority, with plans to add historical projects that have shaped the creative discourse of the 2000s and 2010s. Additionally, our content—both old and new—requires revised metadata to improve search and relationships between the articles. This year we’ll also be adding a new hierarchical taxonomy called Tools to replace current categories, ensuring a more intuitive way to explore our content. The current categories will also see restructuring, transitioning to thematic classifications like Robotics, Generative Design, BioDesign, Objects, Critical Making, Futures etc, and we also would love to bring to you CAN meetups, lecture series, workshops, and show-and-tell sessions that further foster exchange of ideas and knowledge. Meanwhile, you will see many more community focused features on the site to accomondated the ever increasing number of member contributions.
