New CAN update brings four new themes for CAN Members—Silver, Carbon, Red, and NC—enhancing readability and adding a little fun to different areas of the site. You can try them by clicking here (members). Activity gains new cards for Instagram/Twitter plus better commenting with clickable @mentions. Behind the scenes: RSS tracking and reporting, ad-block monitoring, faster Activity loading, bug fixes, and an optimized animated footer logo.

• (maintenance) Started monitoring RSS usage and pleased to confirm that RSS is much alive and well. Hits through RSS+ (Members / Full Content) are now counted in member Reports. Excerpted public RSS hits are not.

16/08/2025

• (maintenance) Updated the footer logo to animated svg. Managed to reduce size to 700kb, from 1.1mb gif. We’d like to return to running canvas here but for now both the size and performance are great.
• (maintenance) Started monitoring ad-block usage for logged out visitors. For now, no action or plan to circumvent, but this may change in the future.
• (feature) Activity: Added new (minimal) cards for Instagram and Twitter/X.

• (feature) Themes: We’ve added four new display themes to CAN: Silver, Carbon, Red, and NC. Try them by clicking △ in the top right corner (logged-in). Dark themes work great with low-light projects, light with the opposite. Coloured themes look great on long-form, info pages and Activity. (members)
• (maintenance) Tools visualisation has been improved and now besides seeing what tools individual person uses you can also click and see their People page.
• (maintenance) Related posts/people/members now includes switches consistent with other listing pages. Changing to no colour will now also make related items black and white or remove meta/titles/excerpt etc.

• (maintanance) Bug fixes: Many things have been fixed, here are some worth mentioning: Activity no longer fires for no reason, scroll to original activity fixed, mentiones link to appropriate pages, new (basic) cards added for X and Instagram, auto refresh will now take you to page 1 if on page #, meta tag now includes over state when on article titles, and many others.

• (feature) Activity: When leaving a comment you can now click to include @username. No longer needed to type out the username.
• (maintanance) Activity: Improved general loading speed as [meta og:image] from websites was clogging things up. Now we check once, grab the image and save on server. If no meta property, we ignore and don’t check again. We’ll try to add some manually as we go in case no image is found.

In Editorial terms, the work on the archive continues. Yet again, many new tags have been merged, tools added, past projects cleaned-up, and a whole lot of people profiles updated. You can track these changes as they happen in Activity.

Finally, our Member Map continues to grow! If you haven’t updated your Location (City), please do so on the /edit-profile/ page under ‘Location’ and see who else is in your city.
