  • Created by Andreas Pihlström (suprb), whitenoise.fm is a white noise generator to help you sleep or fill that silent void that can affect concentration or focus.

I’ve always had trouble sleeping. Falling asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, or too early in the morning. For the past 20 years I’ve listened (not watched) to the same sitcoms on repeat. Seinfeld, Frasier, start to finish, over and over. Sometimes I get too annoyed by the same voices and start desperately searching for something else to make it through the night.

The other night I tried a “10 hour white noise” playlist on Spotify. Normally I find white noise dull, but this time something was different. I didn’t notice right away, but the crossfade between tracks was on. And oh sh*t it was beautiful. The transitions pulled me into different rooms. Some small and tight. Some vast. Some wobbly, bright, low. It was one of the best listening experiences I’ve had in years.

That moment inspired me to build whitenoise.fm. A tool for sleep, focus, or just being. You can set the length of crossfades, let it auto-blend, freeze a sound, then dive in and tweak it until it feels right. I use it every day. Maybe you’ll like it too.
